The Xiaomi Mi 5X is now officially announced. It was announced at the company’s event held in China. The Mi 5X comes with dual rear camera setup and runs on MIUI9. The camera setup is same as the company’s flagship Mi 6, but now it competes with the mid-range segment. The phone will be priced at 1,499 Yuan (approximately 15,000 INR) which will really give competition to other mid ranged smartphones.
Mi 5X is another addition to Xiaomi’s Mi 5 series, after the addition of Mi 5s and the cheaper Mi 5c. Mi 5c has company’s own Surge S1 SoC processor. The Mi 5X comes with a 5.5 inch full HD Display, powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB of RAM with 64GB expandable storage, everything packed in a full metal unibody design. It also features a rear fingerprint sensor. Phone will be available in Gold, Black and Rose Gold color options.

The main feature here is the Dual camera setup in a mid-range smartphone. The company says that the camera setup is same as that of Mi 6. Where one camera is a wide angle lens, where as another is a telephoto lens. Both the sensors are OmniVision sensors. With the dual camera setup, it is possible to achieve 2x optical zoom, and also supports Bokeh effect and portrait mode. Whereas the front camera is 5MP and supports 1080p video recording.
The Mi 5X runs on latest version of the company’s own custom UI MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. The new MIUI 9 brings new features such as: Xiaomi’s own smart assistant, a new file system, and support for system wide image search. Xiaomi says, the new MIUI 9 will improve the app launch timings, and provide a new Milti-window split screen functionality.
Overall, the Mi 5X is designed to feel premium and rich in your hands. Also, performance wise, the specs are pretty standard for a mid-range smartphone. So, it might make a good buying choice if you are planning to buy one.
