Hike has become the first messaging app ahead of WhatsApp to introduce payments and wallet feature with its Hike 5.0 update.
Hike introduced the mobile payment feature in partnership with YES Bank. Whatsapp was in talks with the Indian Government for launching digital payments directly from the app. WhatsApp has over 200 million active users in India. Hike with its new update has beaten Whatsapp in the digital payments race. The main question is how it works? Let’s see.
In the ME section of the app, you will find two new options namely Wallet and Blue packets. We will talk about blue packets later. so let’s talk about wallet.
Opening the wallet, you will see the newer and fresher look of your wallet. In this section, there are options for adding money, sending money, requesting money and even recharge options for your cellular data and calls.
You can even link your bank accounts through UPI (Unified Payments Interface) for easier and safe payments. You can do free and instant bank-to-bank transfers through UPI in Hike wallet.
Sending and requesting money to other contacts is quiet easy. You just have to select the contact to whom you want to send money or request money and then it will send that money to them instantly through your wallet.
Adding money is quiet simple too. You have to type in your desired amount and then click on ‘ADD’. Then it will ask you to choose from the payment methods including debit or credit card and UPI linked bank accounts.
You can recharge any mobile number with certain operators and you get to choose from prepaid and postpaid options as well. There is even an option for browsing through the operators’ plans.
At the top right corner, you can see there is a wallet icon. Clicking on that, You will get that options for transaction history, settings and an option for contacting Hike for support.
Now let’s talk about the Blue Packets.
It is an attempt to convert the traditional way of offering money as gifts into digital form. Hike is offering some packets for different occasions such as Happy Birthday packet, Congratulations packet and many more.
You just have to enter the amount you want to present to someone with a personal message for them. There is also an automatic system for refunds if the packets are not opened in the 24 hours of receiving. Technically it means the packets can only be opened for the next 24 hours of sending. The money will be deducted directly from your Hike wallet.
It is now a tough competition for WhatsApp in the Indian market. Let us know in the comments about what you feel about the new Hike wallet.
